Buffalo Bills re-sign returner Brandon Tate

The veteran returned kicks and played some receiver for Buffalo in 2016.

The Buffalo Bills have brought back their primary return man Brandon Tate. The unrestricted free agent was first signed to a one-year deal right before the start of the 2016 regular season.

Tate returned 26 punts for 301 yards in 2016. His 11.6 yards-per-return average was the fifth-highest in the NFL among primary returners and the highest of his career. He also returned 29 kickoffs for 662 yards.

Due to a myriad of injuries at the receiver spot, Tate was forced into a major role for a portion of the season. He caught eight passes for 117 yards on 12 targets and had three rushes for 48 yards.

Tate is 6’1”, 195 pounds and will be 30 years old on October 5. He was picked in the third round by the Patriots in 2009 and spent two years in New England. After that, his next five seasons were with the Bengals.
