14 Valsad cops transferred for alleged links with bootleggers

SURAT: Valsad district superintendent of police Premvir Singh, transferred 14 cops including eight constables and six police officers on Friday as part of routine actions. However, sources close to the development suggest that some of the transfers were done after serious complaints against those cops.
Of the eight constables, five were transferred from local crime branch to the headquarters.
Two constables from the special operations group (SOG) and one from Pardi police station were also transferred.
Police sub-inspectors J H Padhiyar was transferred from Vapi GIDC to Dungri police station; R P Solanki was transferred to Nanapondha from Valsad town; A H Chhaiya posted at Valsad town from Nana Pondha and J A Damor was transferred from Umargam to Vapi GIDC.
Police inspector V H Joshi was transferred from Dungri to Umargam police station while J B Mali, police inspector of Umargam was posted as circle police inspector of Valsad.
"Majority of these are routine transfers while some are due to complaints against them. There were some allegations against them and considering the seriousness the cops were transferred," said Singh.
Meanwhile, some policemen are facing inquiry for allegedly having nexus with bootleggers, said sources. The inquiry has been ordered by the SP following crucial evidence against the cops.
Through examination of mobile call details, senior police officials found that the policemen were in touch with some bootleggers.

Valsad being the bordering district with Union territory Daman that plays major role in illegal transportation of liquor into Gujarat. So far, though actions were taken against policemen in Surat and Navsari districts for their alleged nexus with bootleggers but no major action was taken.
"Few cops are facing inquiry and strict actions against them," Singh added.
