Pierre McGuire says the Lightning need to play dirty in order to win

Pierre McGuire just won’t stop being Pierre McGuire.

During Wednesday’s Game 3 matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning, the NBCSN sideline reporter went through his keys of the game. McGuire said during the live segment that the Lightning needed to stop ‘playing the nice guy,’ and be more aggressive. That’s a totally fine thing to say, but McGuire went overboard when referring to examples of not being nice.

“There you see what happened in game number one,” McGuire said as clips of Ryan Callahan dirtily running over Kris Letang and Ondrej Palat checking Brian Dumoulin in Game 1 showed on screen. “Oh by the way, they won game number one,” McGuire exclaimed.

The problem here is McGuire is encouraging the Lightning to make dirty, illegal plays, saying it gave them the series opener win. That’s messed up. Ironically, it comes right on the heels of his NBCSN colleague Mike Milbury making similar, stupid remarks live on air, saying “If you’re going to hit somebody from behind, give them a slight concussion,” in reference to the St. Louis Blues taking light penalties.

The comments from McGuire shouldn’t surprise anybody that’s watched McGuire before, but that doesn’t make them right. He shouldn’t be spouting this nonsense and rooting for the Lightning players to be dirty to Penguins players. NBCSN should be ashamed their two biggest “analysts” would ever call for dirtiness and injury attempts. It’s embarrassing.
