A number of City College of San Francisco faculty members from across the city are on strike today, and will be marching down to the Civic Center Campus (1170 Market St.) this afternoon to continue protesting systemwide cuts to staffing and classes.

According to the Examiner, the one-day strike is the first for AFT 2121, the decades-old faculty union at CCSF. The union and the administration have been battling from more than a year over faculty pay, and still have not reached an agreement.

City College Chancellor Susan Lamb canceled classes at all 11 campuses ahead of the protest. “Due to the strike, we do not anticipate having the necessary personnel onsite to maintain and operate the buildings,” she said via email.

AFT 2121 held picket lines outside eight campuses this morning, then marched a 12pm rally at the Civic Center Campus. Picketing will resume at each campus at 2pm, with supporters reconvening for a social event at 7:30pm at El Rio (3158 Mission St.)
