CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Mo Williams will not be available for Sunday's Game 1 opening-round playoff series against the Detroit Pistons at The Q.

Last week Williams traveled to Florida and New York to have his left knee examined further by Dr. James Andrews and Dr. David Altcheck respectively. The team says he is "currently undergoing a treatment and rehabilitation process."

His injury is diagnosed as chondromalacia, inflammation of cartilage under the kneecap. He has been in discomfort all season long. The 13-year vet went through parts of practice on Friday and appeared to be moving quite well.

Head coach Tyronn Lue says it's possible Williams could be activated for Game 2 on Wednesday.

"Hopefully he's available for Game 2, but I'm not sure yet," Lue said. "That's what we're looking towards."

Williams, 32, missed a month of the season because of the problem. He has sought several opinions, but hasn't been satisfied with the diagnosis.

At this juncture, it's unlikely he would be used much even if activated considering he's the third point guard on the roster. He took considerably less money last off-season to have a chance at a ring and has shown a determination to get back on the court.

It just hasn't happened as often as he would have wanted.
