Former Mizzou coach Norm Stewart to receive Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award | The Kansas City Star
Norm Stewart, who was Missouri’s coach for 32 seasons and helped found Coaches vs. Cancer, will be honored April with the Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award during the annual College Basketball Awards ceremony.

Also high on the agenda is the media storm that surrounded his coming out announcement and subsequent draft into one of the world’s most elite sporting leagues.
"I wouldn’t say it was a storm because to me storms are bad. I helped a lot of people," he tells us. "I was so naive when I came out. I wasn’t thinking about anybody else trying to be an inspiration or advocate or activist, whatever, I wasn’t trying to be anything but just to get that over with so I could stop focusing on me.

Cunningham, the team’s exuberant guard with bunched-up shorts, played the part of hometown hero. Fresh off leading Rock Bridge to four straight state titles, she helped restore Missouri’s program to a level it hadn’t seen since she was in elementary school.
Cunningham was a big hit with fans, too. High school players around the state began tucking their shorts into their compression shorts like Cunningham and sent her photos on social media to prove it. Fans lingered after home games in hopes of getting Cunningham’s autograph or a photo with her.
