SAN FRANCISCO — There was a time when one of the great debates in NFL circles was about quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady — like which man was better.

That discussion has mostly fizzled as Brady has four Super Bowl rings to Manning’s one. Even a Denver Broncos victory Sunday wouldn’t get Manning back to comparable levels with Brady, said Hall of Fame receiver and ESPN analyst Cris Carter.

“That’s not even a conversation for anyone whose been watching the NFL for the last 15 or 20 years,” Carter said Thursday. “Forget about Tom, even the other players who have (won Super Bowls) in this era — his brother (Eli Manning), Ben (Roethlisberger), Russell (Wilson), all these guys have taken some of the shine away from Peyton because of their ability to not only get their team here, but to be able to win.”
